A nondrug remedy for menstrual discomfort is to apply a heating pad to the lower abdomen when symptoms begin. This treatment has fewer adverse effects than NSAID therapy and may also provide faster relief.1 It is particularly helpful for women who cannot tolerate NSAIDs.
