Overweight and Obesity in the US: Worst States/Best States

Commentary
Slideshow

Overweight and obesity affect the 50 states and DC in different ways and to varying degrees but no state is unaffected. The short slide show offers insights at-a-glance.

Overweight and obesity affect approximately 4 in 10 US adults aged 20 years and older, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Rates for children and adolescents are somewhat lower but have risen dramatically in the past 2 decades.

The magnitude of the problem is far greater than the excess pounds Americans carry given the multitude of diseases caused by obesity and their associated morbidity and mortality.

The short slide show above highlights findings from a recent study by WalletHub that compared the 50 states and DC across 31 metrics and found out how they rank on adult and childhood overweight and obesity, physical inactivity, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.
