A broken nose can result in a great deal of swelling and discomfort-and often bleeding as well. An over-thecounter nasal vasoconstrictor can reduce the swelling to permit easier breathing and greater comfort. It can also reduce bleeding. Instruct patients to limit vasoconstrictor use to 2 or 3 days to avoid dependence.
