When children who are recuperating from a tonsillectomy refuse most fluids offered to them, suggest that their parents purchase ice cube trays that make ice in fun shapes, such as hearts and stars. The trays can be filled with juice or fruit drinks. Children love the colorful, unusual "cubes," which have the additional benefit of numbing the operative area when they are sucked on.
