For versatile, portable heat therapy, have patients run a hand towel under hot tap water, ring it out slightly, then put it in a large ziplock bag. The zip-lock bag holds in the moisture and can be disposed of after use-which can prevent the spread of germs after treatment of an abscess. Patients who will be traveling can simply bring several zip-lock bags with them.
