Walk First, Jog Later

I recommend a simple exercise to help would-be joggers avert later problems. I tell them to walk to and from a point about a half mile from home and time themselves with a stopwatch. Every day thereafter, they are to walk a bit more briskly to improve the time it takes to cover the mile. When their walking time cannot be improved, they can begin jogging with a fair amount of safety. - Henry J. Noerling, Jr, MD
