US confirmed cases of COVID-19 number nearly 5.5 million; global cases have surpassed 21 million. We summarize more of today's data from the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 interactive map.

How many cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been confirmed in the US?

According to the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 interactive map, as of today, August 17, 2020 at 2:27 PM, EDT, there have been:

• 5 416 639 confirmed cases
• 170 194 deaths
• 1 833 067 recoveries

The 5 states with the highest total confirmed cases are:

1. California: 625 308
2. Florida: 573 416
3. Texas: 555 726
4. New York: 425 916
5. Georgia: 237 030

Deaths: New York has the most deaths due to COVID-19 with 32 846 reported fatalities, followed by New Jersey with 15 912 deaths, and California with 11 246.

Recoveries: Texas leads in recoveries from COVID-19 with 399 572 people who have recovered, followed by North Carolina with 116 969 recoveries and Louisiana with 103 512.

Tests administered: California leads in number of persons tested with 9 798 135 people tested, followed by New York with 7 068 196 people tested, and Texas with 4 439 041 people tested.

How many cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed globally?

Globally, there have been 21 755 069 confirmed cases, 776 469 deaths, and 13 716 751 recoveries.
