COVID-19 Update: US and Global Cases, Deaths, and Recoveries as of October 16, 2020

US confirmed cases of COVID-19 is nearing 8 million; global cases have reached 39 million. We summarize more of today's data from the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 interactive map.

How many cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been confirmed in the US?

According to the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 interactive map, as of today, October 16, 2020 at 10:24 AM, EDT, there have been:

• 7 985 356 confirmed cases
• 217 798 deaths
• 3 177 397 recoveries

The 5 states with the highest total confirmed cases are:

1. California: 868 723
2. Texas: 837 616
3. Florida: 744 988
4. New York: 479 400
5. Georgia: 336 241

Deaths: New York has the most deaths due to COVID-19 with 33 337 reported fatalities, followed by Texas with 17 288 deaths, and California with 16 840.

Recoveries: Texas leads in recoveries from COVID-19 with 716 015 people who have recovered, followed by North Carolina with 206 471 recoveries and Tennessee with 200 164.

Tests administered: California leads in number of persons tested with 16 517 812 people tested, followed by New York with 12 475 392 people tested, and Texas with 7 111 890 people tested.

How many cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed globally?

Globally, there have been 39 015 163 confirmed cases, 1 099 727 deaths, and 26 939 337 recoveries.
