COVID-19 Update: US and Global Cases, Deaths, and Recoveries as of October 19, 2020

Global confirmed cases of COVID-19 have surpassed 40 million. We summarize more of today's data from the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 interactive map.

How many cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been confirmed in the US?

According to the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 interactive map, as of today, October 19, 2020 at 9:24 AM, EDT, there have been:

• 8 156 970 confirmed cases
• 219 681 deaths
• 3 234 138 recoveries

The 5 states with the highest total confirmed cases are:

1. California: 876 033
2. Texas: 854 006
3. Florida: 755 020
4. New York: 484 281
5. Illinois: 347 631

Deaths: New York has the most deaths due to COVID-19 with 33 357 reported fatalities, followed by Texas with 17 465 deaths, and California with 16 979.

Recoveries: Texas leads in recoveries from COVID-19 with 726 231 people who have recovered, followed by North Carolina with 206 471 recoveries and Tennessee with 204 726.

Tests administered: California leads in number of persons tested with 16 892 062 people tested, followed by New York with 12 900 166 people tested, and Texas with 7 326 919 people tested.

How many cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed globally?

Globally, there have been 40 118 314 confirmed cases, 1 114 765 deaths, and 27 535 024 recoveries.
