COVID-19 Update: US and Global Cases, Deaths, and Recoveries as of October 22, 2020

Global confirmed cases of COVID-19 have surpassed 41 million. We summarize more of today's data from the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 interactive map.

How many cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been confirmed in the US?

According to the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 interactive map, as of today, October 22, 2020 at 9:24 AM, EDT, there have been:

• 8 339 960 confirmed cases
• 222 239 deaths
• 3 323 354 recoveries

The 5 states with the highest total confirmed cases are:

1. California: 887 658
2. Texas: 868 981
3. Florida: 762 533
4. New York: 488 506
5. Illinois: 358 799

Deaths: New York has the most deaths due to COVID-19 with 33 371 reported fatalities, followed by Texas with 17 652 deaths, and California with 17 192.

Recoveries: Texas leads in recoveries from COVID-19 with 739 140 people who have recovered, followed by North Carolina with 218 541 recoveries and Tennessee with 210 243.

Tests administered: California leads in number of persons tested with 17 293 139 people tested, followed by New York with 13 197 504 people tested, and Texas with 7 474 874 people tested.

How many cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed globally?

Globally, there have been 41 333 175 confirmed cases, 1 132 869 deaths, and 28 173 696 recoveries.
