When parents ask how to dose acetaminophenfor a child under 2 yearsof age, base the dosage on the child'sweight. First, identify which concentrationof acetaminophen the parents areusing--infants' drops have a concentrationof 80 mg/0.8 mL, while that ofthe children's liquid is 80 mg/2.5 mL(160 mg/5 mL). Then, use this simpleformula to calculate the dosage: amaximum of 7 mg/lb or 15 mg/kg ofacetaminophen every 4 to 6 hours.-- Daniel Lee, MD
