NAFLD is Now MASLD: The New Nomenclature, At-a-Glance
The American Association for the Study of Liver Disease's annual scientific conference, The Liver Meeting 2023, kicks off on Friday, November 10 and runs until Tuesday, November 14th.
Educational sessions, abstracts, and posters on the natural history, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of steatotic liver disease delivered by the field's leading scientists will fill the 5 days and offer topics of interest to practitioners at all levels.
Underlying the proceedings will be the ongoing discussion and possibly deliberation over the updated nomenclature that replaces the term nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatis (NASH) with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). The short slide show that follows highlights the background for the revised naming, elements of the new definitions for adults and children, and an initial diagnostic tool as a guide.
