Chief Justice Roberts Suffers Seizure
ROCKPORT, Me. -- Chief Justice John Roberts had a benign idiopathic seizure today at his summer home near here and was hospitalized as a precaution, according to the Supreme Court.
ROCKPORT, Me., July 30 -- Chief Justice John Roberts had a benign idiopathic seizure today at his summer home near here and was hospitalized as a precaution, according to the Supreme Court.
Roberts, 52, was taken by boat from his summer home on Hupper Island, off Port Clyde, and then by ambulance about 50 miles to the hospital here. The seizure caused a fall, with minor scrapes, the court said.
The seizure appeared similar to one Roberts had on a golf course in 1993, long before his Supreme Court service, from which he is said to have fully recovered. At the time, he stopped driving for several months.
After today's seizure, Roberts had a "thorough neurological evaluation, which revealed no cause for concern," said a court spokesperson.
Roberts was to remain overnight at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
