COVID-19 Update: Global Confirmed Cases as of April 8, 2020

The latest COVID-19 data on confirmed cases, fatalities, and more from the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 interactive map.

How many cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been confirmed globally?

According to the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 interactive map, as of today, April 8, 2020 at 9:26 AM, there have been:

  • 1 447 466 confirmed cases

  • 83 471 deaths

  • 308 215 recoveries

The US continues to lead with the most confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 399 929 total cases to date, followed by Spain with 146 690 cases and Italy with 135 586 cases. 

Italy has the highest number of confirmed deaths (17 127), followed by Spain (14 555) and France (10 328). China leads in recoveries with 77 565 people who have recovered, followed by Spain with 48 021 recoveries and Germany with 36 081.

How many cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the US?

As previously stated, there are now 399 929 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the US as well as 12 911 deaths and 22 539 recoveries.

The 5 states with the highest total confirmed cases are:

1. New York: 140 386
2. New Jersey: 44 416
3. Michigan: 18 970
                                4. California: 17 625
                                  5. Louisiana: 16 284

New York also has the most deaths due to COVID-19 with >4000 reported fatalities, followed by Wayne, Michigan with 402 deaths.
