Home Blood Pressure Monitoring among Older US Adults

Author(s)Grace Halsey

Among adults aged 50 to 80 years with a BP-related condition, less than half say they regularly monitor BP at home; one-third are "not very concerned" about their BP.

A recent survey by the University of Michigan National Poll on Healthy Aging asked a national sample of adults aged 50 to 80 years about any health conditions they had that benefit from controlling blood pressure (BP) and about their experiences with monitoring blood pressure at home.

The results showed that 60% of respondents reported having one or more BP-related condition or that they take an antihypertensive medication.

In the slides that follow you'll find highlights of the survey findings including the proportion of older adults who use home BP monitoring, why they choose to do so, and for those who are candidates and don't use home monitoring--why?
