LONDON, Feb. 21 -- Treating herpes simplex with valacylovir (Valtrex) reduces the level of HIV in women who are infected with both viruses, according to researchers here.

The finding -- from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in Africa -- could help improve the control of HIV transmission, according to Nicolas Nagot, M.D., of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
